Report: Black drivers stopped in Pflugerville at disproportionate rate, but profiling not evident

A report that examined the race of drivers pulled over by Pflugerville police last year found that Black people were stopped at a disproportionate rate than their percentage of the population. However, the report and city officials said racial profiling is not the cause. The report found that white drivers made up 33.5% of traffic stops, Hispanic drivers were 31.1% of stops, Black drivers 27.4% of stops, and Asian drivers were 9% of stops.White people make up 40.1% of the city population, 31.2% are Hispanic,  Black people make up 14.8% and 8.3% are Asian, according to the report.Despite Black people being stopped at nearly twice the rate as the population of African Americans in the city, officials said the data does not show that racial profiling is taking place.
